yes you're right. your country is vht80 blocked according to your
regulatory setting. so it might be that ubuntu has just a outdated
regulatory database
because the official regdb supports vht80 for canada
http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/precise/wireless-regdb
this is the package. what we see is just shit. ubuntu uses a regdb from
2011 where vht support wasnt included. i know why i hate ubuntu. its
designed for home entertainment but not for users
you can install your own version from the official git
