Considering that the user space application will directly process the
raw reply from the firmware then it looks "pass through" enough to me.

It looks very close to the comparison case:

Binary sysfs and proc files are (rightly) considered a bad idea because
it's hard to change their format without breaking programs using them,
but the format of the card_info data is tied to the conexant firmwares
and is not supposed to change.
