Yes, so there's less resource (both money and developers and testers)
fragmentation.
But the rules need to be those of LEDE.
So more than a re-merge is LEDE incorporating OpenWRT.

I don't mind.
Branding is just like a name or a dress: nothing substantial.
But let's keep in mind that:
1. OpenWRT is a well established and known name
2. OpenWRT recalls a single family of routers
3. LEDE is still little known.
