Thanks, it seems that compilation succeeds with this version only when
gperf was available. That's why I didn't notice. In any case, I've
released 0.9.0.1 which includes the missing file.

Check config.log for the reason of failure. In my debian the packages
that you mention are sufficient to enable that support.
