These fatal errors caused the immediate termination of the worker
without sending any statistics to main process. I've now fixed that, and
from a quick review, I see no other reason for a premature exit (except
from a crash of course). 

Maybe it would make sense to inform the main process periodically rather
than once on exit, to limit the error in case of unexpected worker
failure.
