You're right, there's no huge gain.  It's my impression that software
placed on GitHub can get more eyeballs, and makes it easy to cooperate.
But...

...in this case, maybe the point is moot.

I learned that immportant pieces like the firmware has been withdrawn
due to some legal issue.  If that can't be resolved, I guess there isn't
a compelling reason to try to copy things to GitHub.
