ARMs standby mode

Hey Guys,
from what i saw in the archives you really seem to know what you're doing.
For my bachelor thesis i want to make the raspberry pi as energy efficient
as possible. Therefore i want to use the ARM1176jzf-s's standby mode
(which one accesses via the Wait For Interrupt operation of the chip).
Since my ARM is running in user mode i can not access the coprocessor
simply (which i'd need for the WFI operation). Some people even told me
the ARM might automatically use it's standby mode when idle, but i need
a prove for that since it's for my bachelor thesis. Any help is highly
appreciated!
