[Linux-parport] Parallel port on laptop

I am running gentoo 2006.1 on a Dell Inspiron E1705.  There are no
parallel port connections.  I have a stepper motor controller that
requires a parallel port.  I installed a belkin F5U002 which uses a
USS720 chip.  I install the kernel modules parport, parport_pc, ppdev,
usblp, and uss720.  I put the modules name in
/etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 and rebooted.  When I do ls /dev/par*
I get no parallel ports.  What am I doing wrong?
