[Linux-parport] USB adapter and Device::ParallelPort

I am wanting to use a USB parallel port adapter with perl module
Device::ParallelPort.  I want to use it to control a relay.  Is it possible
to use a USB parallel port adapter to control a relay?  I read on one site
that USB adapter would only work with printers and you couldn't do the low
level stuff.
