Failed to enable trace event: nvme:*

Not sure why NVMe tracepoints cannot be enabled during the boot phase in Ubuntu, I added "trace_event=nvme:*" in the kernel boot command line, but after booting, I get the following error message:

"Failed to enable trace event: nvme:*"

I found Ming Lei posted the same problem on the 2019 Linux-nvme mailing list, but don't know how to fix it.

Does anyone know why?
