TureIDE & CFI

Hi, I'm trying to use a 128M SanDisk flash device in
True IDE Mode for a root file system but I'm confused
in whether to configure in IDE capabilities, MTD
capabilities some combination of the two. 

Does anyone know of a HowTo which speaks about True
IDE and CFI? or other links, resources which could
help me?

BTW, the target is MIPS based w/kernel 2.4.19
w/additions.
