Question on "IEEE 802.11 n" mode

Hi All

hw_mode can be set to only a,b,g. why mode 'n' is seperated out .

If I have the following config

hw_mode = g
ieee80211n = 1

Does it mean that device is operating in mode 'g' with additional 'n'
capabilities ? I am confused . Please clarify ?
