SIGHUP and iwconfig channel anomaly

Hi,

Does anybody have an idea about below mentioned anomaly?

1. Start hostapd on channel 1.

2. iwlist and iwconfig outputs wlan0 is on channel 1.

3. Edit hostapd.conf and set channel to 6.

4. kill -HUP hostapd

5. iwlist outputs ap in on channel 6, but iwconfig outputs wlan0 is
   still on channel 1.

Why does iwconfig fails to get the right channel number? Is it possible
to make the same query with iw?
