promiscuous mode and association problems

Hi!

After beeing connected a while to an AP, the hostap driver disconnects 
and is unable to reconnect.

wifi0: LinkStatus=6 (Association failed)
wifi0: LinkStatus: BSSID=44:44:44:44:44:44

Why does this happen?
How can i recover without having to remove the pcmcia card everytime it 
happens?

I'm using the hostap driver from kernel 2.6.17 and a Netgear MA401 rev. 
D pcmcia card. Should use a Prism 3 chipset.

I would be thankful to get some hints.
