madwifi+wpa_supplicant issues

Hi,

I've wrestling with this and was wondering if someone could enlighten me. I had no problem using madwifi and wireless tools under Centos3.x, now that I am using Centos 4.x i am having issues with talking to encrypted wireless network, i.e. using wpa_supplicant.

running on a x31 thinkpad with the atheros chipset wireless nic capable of a,b,g , kern 2.6.9-11.EL.

madwifi / ath0 is working fine and actually connects to unencrypted networks on its own.

I am using the command:
sudo wpa_supplicant -ddd -D madwifi -i ath0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

and my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf file looks like this:

network={
        ssid="w3rd"
        #key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        #key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
        #key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
        #key_mgmt=WPA-EAP WPA-PSK IEEE8021X NONE
        key_mgmt=NONE
        psk="682m at ss"
        #psk="5F10E4D70773E34694373FEB0D"
        #wep_key0="5F10E4D70773E34694373FEB0D"
        #wep_key1="D0433B4C58"
}
 I have tried a number of options and i simply cannot get it to work thus far. I am using a standard linksys 802.11b wireless router, ssid is w3rd, 64bit WEP encryption, which i have passphrase and several key strings to. if i provide the passphrase for psk variable it complains:

Line: 1 - start of a new network block
ssid - hexdump_ascii(len=4):
     77 33 72 64                                       w3rd
key_mgmt: 0x4
Line 8: Invalid passphrase length 7 (expected: 8..63) '682m at ss'.
Line 8: failed to parse psk '"682m at ss'.
Line 12: failed to parse network block.
so i tried passing a key as the psk "passphrase" and tried the wep_key variables also, i also tried IEE8021X and also NONE.

with IEE8021X and the key set as the psk i see this verbage since i'm using the debug mode:

It looks like it sees the network but is unable to connect to it for some reason.

if i set WPA-PSK I see the output:

If there is something obviously wrong with my configuration file please let me know. Or any kind of advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Patrice
