how to use wpa supplicant

Hi,

can I use 2*linux with hostap (CVS), an ad-hoc net and wpa supplicant
for a secure encrypted wireless lan connection?
if not, what would be the easiest alternative?

I know it is in development, maybe even pre-alpha, but it cannot
be possible worse then the linux 2.6 ipsec implementation.
So I'd be very happy to get rid of the later and use hostap
with wpa supplicant.
