Wow. This is a stumper. I have a barebones kit-based PC functioning as an AP 
(VIA Chipset--like yours). The only thing I can think of to ask is if this is 
a Red Hat kernel or not. If you're using a Red Hat distro kernel, perhaps 
switching to a vanilla one could help.
