Upgrading Firmware on a WMP11, Incompatible interfaces

Hi all,

After reading many posts, swaring many times and having many file transfers
interrupted/corrupted Im going to see if posting here may help. My
appologies if this has been covered before, i have yet to find a clearly
explained. solution. If one exists please just direct me to it to save
bothering the rest of the list.

Ok, here is the situation. I have a Linksys WMP11 Prism 2.5 card attempting
to act as an access point and for the most part the card works well. However
on attempting to upload large files (exess of ~500kb) from a wifi enabled
laptop to the computer hosting the card (or any other computer being routed
to by the AP) the card whould seem to drop out, often (with earlier hostap
drivers) locking up the host computer aswell. It seems the problem only
arisses when the card has a heavy Rx load.

 Here are the firmware specs...

# ./hostap_diag wlan0
Host AP driver diagnostics information for 'wlan0'

NICID: id=0x8013 v1.0.0 (PRISM II (2.5) Mini-PCI (SST parallel flash))
PRIID: id=0x0015 v1.0.5
STAID: id=0x001f v1.3.4 (station firmware)

>From reading various posts and howtos it seems this PRI/STA firmware
combination is known to corrupt packets going onto the PCI bus. How nice. A
dmesg gives us all sorts of errors (somewhat snipped for breverity)...

Quite lovely. Would I be correct in assuming its the firmware combo that is
at fault?

Okay now that we've hopefully established that as the cause, how do we go
about upgrading the firmware for this card? I would like to try STA 1.4.9
but as many probably know Linksys cant get off their backside to get 1.4.9
out, and since they've now changed chipsets for this product i would say
their latest release is going to stay at 1.4.6 for quit a while (which too
has problems).

On attempt of a RAM-download of RF010409.HEX (from
http://www.netgate.com/support/prism_firmware/, which is supposably
compatible with this chipset revision) i get the following message from
prism2_srec....

Bah, Incompatible my foot. Just to rub it in i take? :)

What whould be the best (safest, less likely to make a paper weight) method
for getting 1.4.9 onto this card?

Lee
