hello all,

As part of the hostap documentation effort:

I've managed to upgrade the STA firmware to the latest 1.4.9 of my compaq
PCMCIA WL100 cards, based on Prism2 chipset (HFA3841, NICID 0x8002) using
the firmware that was posted ealier on this list for this chipset
(http://hostap.epitest.fi/hostap/2002-08/1540.html), (which, for reference,
I repeat on this message).
Also, please note that firmwares avaliable at www.Netgate.com are for
prism2.5 and prism3 only.

To perform the actual flashing I've used the Intersil windows utility
(WinUpdate-0-5-1-0.exe) that is inside
(ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/DWL650/Firmware/dwl650_firmware_8c2.exe)
(source: http://hostap.epitest.fi/hostap/2002-07/1379.html). As noted
before, this utility checks if the type of firmware is compatible with your
particular hardware.

Also, as a final test, i've used the latest Compaq firmware utility (inside
softpaq sp15584.exe) to revert the card back to 0.8.0, and i've performed
again the firmware update, without any problems. (i.e., 0.8.0 => 1.4.9 =>
0.8.0 => 1.4.9).

------------

Starting point:
Compaq WL100 with STA 0.8.0
Oct 16 01:21:18 estrela kernel: prism2_hw_config()
Oct 16 01:21:18 estrela kernel: prism2_hw_config: initialized in 9747
iterations
Oct 16 01:21:18 estrela kernel: wlan0: NIC: id=0x8002 v1.0.1
Oct 16 01:21:18 estrela kernel: wlan0: PRI: id=0x15 v0.3.0
Oct 16 01:21:18 estrela kernel: wlan0: STA: id=0x1f v0.8.0
Oct 16 01:21:18 estrela kernel: Using data::nullfunc ACK workaround -
firmware upgrade recommended

Problems:
a) data::nullfunc ACK workaround. (see above)
b) in high load situations there were many many INFDROP events generated on
the driver.

Ending Point:
Compaq WL100 with STA 1.4.9
Oct 15 19:28:17 estrela kernel: prism2_hw_init()
Oct 15 19:28:17 estrela kernel: prism2_hw_config: initialized in 9859
iterations
Oct 15 19:28:17 estrela kernel: wlan0: NIC: id=0x8002 v1.0.1
Oct 15 19:28:17 estrela kernel: wlan0: PRI: id=0x15 v0.3.0
Oct 15 19:28:17 estrela kernel: wlan0: STA: id=0x1f v1.4.9

Problems:
a) solved
b) in same high load situation, there are no INFDROP events.
