...Pity; had you tried and it worked, it would have been valuable info 
for a subset of GiP 2.97 users who are, for one reason or the other, 
stuck at that obsolete FFmpeg v0.8.x - more so if they are not in a 
position to upgrade it (or simply are not willing to...).

Additionally, it would alert the GiP maintainer to update 
the documentation to include v0.8 to the FFmpeg versions 
to which that switch applies (currently it states: 
> --ffmpeg-obsolete
> Indicates you are using an obsolete version of ffmpeg (<0.7)
