That had not occurred to me, I assumed it was something I was doing.
I have another machine running a different version of ffmpeg, I will
give it a go.
It appears to be the conversion of aac to ac3 that is going wrong, as
if I specify
-acodec mp2 -b:a 128k
then it seems to be ok.

I will report back after trying on the other machine.
