Members of the black turtleneck brigade -

There was a thread a few months ago covering installation of get_iplayer
dependencies on OS X using Homebrew (http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/).
I have been belatedly inspired to add get_iplayer itself to the
Homebrew universe. I wasn't able to get it past the gatekeepers into
the main Homebrew repository (always a long shot), but that turned out
to be a good thing. The installation and usage details are here:

https://github.com/dinkypumpkin/homebrew-get_iplayer/wiki

The current version applies the recent live TV/Olympics patches.

Why would you want to use this? If you already use Homebrew you might
appreciate integrating get_iplayer with the rest of your packages. If
not, there are a few other things you might like: 1) For fresh
installations, Homebrew takes care of building and installing up-to-date
versions of all get_iplayer dependencies; 2) Homebrew makes it easy to
update from release to "HEAD" versions of get_iplayer in order to
incorporate recent patches; 3) The get_iplayer package includes a script
to launch the Web PVR as on Windows, if that's your cup of tea.

Why would you not want to use this? If you already have a satisfactory
means of maintaining get_iplayer on your Mac, there is no need to
switch. And if you're uncomfortable using the command line, Homebrew
might not be to your taste. You might also be nervous about building
software from source, which Homebrew does. However, as you'll see in
the instructions Homebrew wraps the build process pretty effectively so
that you don't need to know the details.
