Do you have any understanding of the random disconnects issue? (Should be a driver/Linux issue!)

ROM has bootloader which is used to transfer firmware from host to the
RAM of chip. Firmware may use API provided by bootloader or can use own API.

Almost, bootloader is reduced firmware.

search for rate controller.
