I've tried multiple firmware versions from kvalo and candelatech but my google-fu couldn’t find a solution. Any thoughts or suggestions?

You need the patch that changes how DMA memory is allocated. It is in the 4.13 kernel,
and also in the 4.9 kernel linked from the CT firmware page.
