IIRC, the ski school ticket even includes the ski pass, so you don't
need to get one yourself  while taking lessons. My impressions was
that as a beginner you're almost always better off buying the ski pass
when you need it instead of in advance, so you can decide each day
which one to take (e.g. half-day, pay-as-you-go or specific lifts) instead
of paying the same every day at a small discount.

d) There is no way I'm joining again, but I'll stay around to heckle
anyway even though I'm not Werner.

[ I'd also be interested in co-organizing a Cycling or Canoeing trip
  for geeks in a suitable area (Iceland, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, ...)
  if there is a local person who can take some of the responsibility ]
