Can't resolve domain after vpn connection terminates

What Distro do you run?  I've had a similar problem with Ubuntu
17.10. Solution was to remove the resolvconf package and use
systemd-resolve for DNS handling. Tho following ticket got me on the
track: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1714803
