Thus far Debian and Ubuntu have started out with ARMv5 support and
Ubuntu has moved on to ARMv7 support.
Older Debian distros are available with ARMv4 support but if you really
want to run Ubuntu on our Netwinder then you would have to compile it
yourself..

Cross compiling Ubuntu is possible however it will take a huge amount of
time and it is not guaranteed to work.
