I have no experience sadly with the rk818. I only have a device on hand
with the rk817. For that matter, I really need to get the next revision
of this out the door. The Only planned change for now is to add a
capacity value (because some userspace programs don't like not having a
percentage present), and to add additional logic to raise the power-off
voltage above the default value to match what is specified in the
battery specs listed in the devicetree (so that way the system shuts
down at a higher voltage level than the 2.7v that's hard coded into the
PMIC). And I suppose also to fix the bug you correctly identified
below.

What's slowing me down is thinking about how to handle the capacity
measurement. I was going to use the columb counter, however the issues
I have with it are 1) it drifts upwards ever so slightly at full
charge, and 2) is there a way I can measure the counter on the way down
(before the battery hits 0% according to the voltage) so a user doesn't
get a "my device died all of a sudden". When we do hit 0% I can guess
that the columb counter should be more or less zero and I can then
assume the actual capacity should be the difference between the max
charge and what charge I measure at 0%. Times like this I assume
experience writing a battery driver would help...

I'm also rewriting the devicetree documentation to be yaml per
guidance from upstream. I think I have it mostly fixed too but have to
make sure it is acceptable since at least a few existing devicetrees
are doing things the datasheets say shouldn't be possible (setting
regulators that aren't in the driver or in the datasheet, for example).

If you think we can tweak this with some register values or ways to
make this more generic to support both platforms, I'm happy to
coordinate efforts. I'll probably take a closer look at this again
next week and prepare it to resubmit again.

Thank you.

Yes, I believe you're right. I'll add this fix to the eventual next
version that comes out. What should happen is that any value set at or
above 3.5A should set 3.5A, any value at or above 3A should set 3A, so
on and so forth down to 0.5A. Anything below 0.5A gets caught before
hitting this and causes the driver to not probe, so we shouldn't have
to worry about that (but you're right a 0.5A value would return an
error here even though it's the minimum acceptable value).
