serious problem with 6-in-1 card reader

Hi all,

This is my first post here. Not knowingly, I first posted this to the bug 
tracker at http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/, where I was told to post the 
problem here.


I have been attempting to use a sandisk 6-in-1 card
reader on a fujitsu-siemens lifebook p7010. The card
doesn't use any special driver under Windows.

I have been trying this with various 2.6.13 and 2.6.14
kernels. My distro of choice is ArchLinux, but I've
been trying this under other distros as well. I start
the pcmcia services with /etc/rc.d/pcmcia start, after
which dmesg gives this:

Now, if I would insert a card (I have only tried this
with SD-cards, as those are the only ones I have at the
moment), I get this:

and 'hde:' continues endlessly, sometimes causing a
very noticeable overall slowdown of the entire system.
Rarely, it even causes a kernel crash and a forced cold
reboot.
