OK, got module-init-tools-3.2-pre7 working along with patched sysfsutils
from debian unstable (installed on stable, it didn't break anything) and
got pcmciautils-003 installed, running on a 2.6.12.1 vanilla kernel

result:

nada

I restart hotplug, and nothing

I just noticed something upon reboot and I was able to reproduce it
restarting pcmcia service

amidala:~# /etc/init.d/pcmcia restart
Shutting down PCMCIA services: done.

once again I'm clueless about what might be going on

cardctl reports only one socket (0) and nothing in it (although I have
an SD card inserted in the SD slot)
