PCMCIA card disabled - please help

Problem solved. There was nothing wrong with the pcmcia. Turned out I
had removed alsa 1.0.9 from my system and reinstalled 1.0.8 which is in
the standard gentoo portage. 1.0.8 is broken as far as my RME sound card
is concerned. Discovered this, reinstalled 1.0.9 and now it all works
again. 2 days barking up the wrong tree - quite an experience.....
