isa_irq_patched pd6729 compile errors

I copied the patched pd6729.c and pd6729.h with cirrus.h and i82635.h to the
external directory and compile only the pd6729.ko outside the kernel.

Does it mean that it is not possible to compile the patched driver outside the
kernel as have been done succesfuly in the past? E.g. it is not possible to compile
the pd6729.ko module from 2.6.11-rc4 against 2.6.10 ?
