Thanks for the info Dominik,

It actually worked for about 10 minutes!! I managed to get my wireless
card up and running, fired up airsnort and saw all my AP's and then
after a reboot it stopped working.

I have tried reproducing the situation but I get the same unable to
apply power error messages again. Just out of interested are the
values you suggested related in any way to the information that I
provided in my original post?
