Problem Description:

swsusp hangs if the pcmcia modules are not removed prior to suspend.
The required sequence for successful suspend is:

cardctl eject
killproc cardmgr
<rmmod all pcmcia modules: pcmcia yenta_socket rsrc_nonstatic pcmcia_core>

For a successful 2.6.11 suspend it was sufficient to call:

cardctl eject
