Dave, thanks for all your help -- the CD is now
working ! 

The fedora config.opts blocks 0x380-0x3ff 

# Radeon ICP MCE's if you touch ports 380 to 3ff
#exclude port 0x380-0x3ff

commenting this out and the CD worked immediately. 

I'll add a fedora bug report to get the drive info
added to the config and point out the they block the
port range. Is there anyone else who I should report
the drive info to ?
