At least for Micron it is possible to do such sequence:
1. Enter 4 byte address mode.
2. Send die erase.
3. Exit 4 byte address mode.
4. Start to poll if erase has been done.

Anyway this prove that upstreaming die erase impl. Is not good idea for now.
Let's wait for your JESD218 work to be merged.
