Usage of reserved bytes in OOB area

I am working on an embedded project, which requires storing some extra information in the out-of-band area of NAND flash. I am particularly interested in using the reserved bytes of OOB. The ones reserved for FS autoplacement should stay intact, but there is the 4th byte of OOB (512 bytes page size) which is reserved. Does anyone know if it is or is planned to be used by mtd?
