What information does the "B" in "10KiB" contain? And why is it "Ki"
instead of the correct "ki"?
Robert: please don't just sit there and wait for someone else to do
your work. Send a patch. If it's wrong, people will comment. Right
now, this discussion is completely academic.

Measure. Don't tune for speed until you've measured, and even then
don't unless one part of the code overwhelms the rest.
