FFS2 queries

Sorry if this is a newbie question...

I was roughly going thru FFS2 code and looks like it does not use of MTD
directly; instead seems to make calls to the buffer cache. Am I missing
something here? Is there any kind of fsck supported on FFS2?

Also does FFS2 have any licensing issues?
