It looks like it's only ever used between atomic_enable and the test
itself. Any reason we don't add it to
drm_atomic_helper_connector_hdmi_priv ?

That way, we wouldn't have to deal with the previous state, it's all
local to the test.

I'd say we expect it to be greater than old_hdmi_update_failures. We
also shouldn't really use ASSERT here, but rather EXPECT.

We should also handle EDEADLK.
