Please improove commit message. Apart from that you are doing far more then just 
this. It seems that would need to be split up in different commit messages.

So you only use the variable directly after assigning, so no need for the

Do we want to instanciate the driver through a platform device? That's not part 
of the driver. I suppose this will break compilation actually.

Maybe I'm missing something important here, but it seems to me this patch is 
like one part of something that on a quick look is not implemented in this series.
