I've been looking at this patch, but I don't like it, esp. the v4l2-ctls changes.

I plan to look into this in more detail next week and see if I can come up
with a better way of doing this.

The core problem from what I can see is not actually RO requests (that's just
a regular request, except userspace can't set controls in the request), but
instead it is that there is some code missing to have a driver add a new control
to an existing request. That's a problem even with 'regular' requests, and this
requires some work.

Hopefully I will have something by the end of next week.
