How to get modules automatically loaded in linux 2.6.39.4

Hi guys,

   I'm having problems automatically loading modules in linux 2.6.39.4. I've tried out the following methods to no avail:

************************
/etc/modules.conf

contents of modules.conf
 
spi_s3c24xx_gpio


***********************

**************************
/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

contents of modprobe.conf

options spi_s3c24xx_gpio


*************************

and
*********************************

/etc/conf.d/modules

The contents of modules

modules="spi_s3c24xx_gpio"

**********************************

does NOT load the spi_s3c24xx_gpio.


Any pointers?  Version of Linux is 2.6.39.4
