Putting a 486 on an fpga might be 'interesting'.
But it has a lot of 'cruft' (like 286 protected mode) that
you really don't need.
I'd bet RISCV comes out smaller.

Most x86 ports are actually IBM-PC ports - so you'd also have
to sort out all the peripherals.
