The returns of kzalloc() aren't checked here, but this can be simplified 
if you have the helpers do the allocation e.g.

Should check the return values of kzalloc() here.  
kzalloc(sizeof(*soc_parent), GFP_KERNEL) might be a bit safer too.

soc_info_put() sounds like a reference counting thing to me, so 
soc_info_populate() would be nicer :-)
