Hi, I forked using SVN and I'm releasing my onw libusbx version.

Please demonstrate a libusbx versioning scheme where one will easily be 
able to *KNOW* that my library is different from mainline.

You should appreciate that statements such as "we could easily" have a 
lot more impact when followed with some kind of demonstration.
