Slow resume on Sharp SL-C3100

I have a Marvell 8385-based wifi card, which works just fine.

I can get it to suspend and resume reliably, but the card appears to 
'lock' for about 60 seconds on resume.

I'm pretty sure that the resume script trying to upload the firmware.  
I'm not sure at all why the process takes so long.

I am seeing this message on resume:

liberstas_cs: can't load helper firmware

and about 60 seconds later the machine resumes just fine and the card 
reassoicates and works fine.
