@ibex-are-goats, it seems that you simply does not have DNS configured (or running).

If you changed your confs to become an AP, you probably is not using wan interface. If so, you need to set gw and dns servers on lan interface. Gw must be ok as you can ping 8.8.8.8. However, dnsmasq is still needed because it is used as a cache dns server.
