I placed quite a few suggestions to try and why; but I think you prefer TFTP method. My main note was:

- I have the same hardware with the same chips, it installs on my devices (with room to spare for a few packages), I suggested chip damage, repair, etc.

Perhaps this will help, I upgraded from the initial release to 17.01.1 in LuCI. The firmware image works.
