It is not quite global bug, but apparently affects all/most NAND devices.

caused by r4188-e96a9a9af8
fixed by r4213-361c8b4ee4

I did not notice your bug before writing my own bug :-(

Just edit the /sbin/sysupgrade file and remove the code block that was added by r4188-e96a9a9af8 .
That was done to sources by https://git.lede-project.org/?p=source.git;a=commitdiff;h=361c8b4ee4a20035d4c967d9d67db90d53e924a2 but we need to edit the file in a live router to get things fixed there.

Once you have firmware r4213 or later, things should be ok as the offending code was removed by r4213.
